Welcome to Maurice’s Piggie Park BBQ, a longstanding fixture in West Columbia, South Carolina, where we’ve been proudly serving up authentic Southern barbecue since 1953. As a family-owned establishment, our dedication to preserving the essence of traditional BBQ runs deep, with recipes handed down through generations and a commitment to wood-fired cooking methods that infuse our dishes with rich, smoky flavors.
Located in the heart of the Midlands, our restaurant embraces the diverse and vibrant culinary traditions of South Carolina. From our renowned mustard-based sauce to an array of mouthwatering fixings, we bring a taste of the region’s finest BBQ to the table, carefully prepared to satisfy every palate.
It all began when Joe Bessinger, Maurice’s father, introduced his tangy mustard sauce to the Holly Hill, SC, locals. Growing up alongside his father’s passion for BBQ, Maurice learned the ropes early on, going on to open his own restaurant in West Columbia, SC. Honoring his father’s legacy, Maurice brought Joe’s secret sauce recipe and pit-cooking techniques to Maurice’s Piggie Park.
Today, the next generations carry on the family’s South Carolina BBQ tradition with “pit-stops” across the state. Every pork ham, rack of ribs, and brisket is still slow-cooked over hickory wood coals that go 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, using Joe’s original secret sauce recipe to uphold its commitment to tradition and taste, just as Joe did in 1939.
