FAQs

Q: How is the food packed and how should it be upon arrival?

A: The product is fully cooked, vacuum sealed, frozen and packed with quality gel packs in a Styrofoam cooler. Package may arrive partially thawed, but should be cool to the touch; put immediately in refrigerator or freezer.

Q: How do I know which shipping options I can choose?
A: Our website is set to only show the shipping methods that are available for your zip code and your type of package. We now offer UPS and USPS Priority Mail shipping. We must use UPS for frozen BBQ meat items. We use Ground Service for frozen BBQ Meats within a 2 day shipping range and 2nd Day Air for BBQ Meats outside of a 2 day ground shipping range. If Standard Service is not shown as an option when checking out, it’s because your perishable package would not get to your door before food safety becomes a concern, and you must choose the Express shipping option.

Check the Ground Service map here and see if your destination falls in the 1 or 2 day zone.

Q: Which days do 2nd day air packages ship?
A: 2nd Day air does not deliver on the weekends, so all packages are shipped Monday through Wednesday at Noon Eastern. Orders placed Wednesday after noon through Sunday will not be shipped until Monday.

Q: Will my package ship the same day I order it?
A: We ship orders Monday through Friday. This depends on the shipping option selected. We aim to ship Fedex orders placed by noon EST the same day. Orders placed after noon or using USPS will be shipped the next day. Orders using 2nd Day Air must be shipped only Monday through Wednesday. Orders using Ground service may be shipped Monday through Friday. Orders placed over the weekend will be shipped on Monday. HOWEVER, occasional circumstances arise where we must delay an order, due to a number of reasons such as inclement weather, a large influx of orders, the pit-cooking schedule, freezing the prepared meats, or packaging issues. Also, not only for our busy schedule, but also the shipping companies volume, we suggest ordering with plenty of advance time around the big BBQ and/or gift holidays, including July 4th, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Q: Do you ship to P.O. Boxes?
A: No, we cannot ship to P.O. Boxes.

Q: Do you ship overseas or to an APO address?
A: It is possible to ship sauce and other miscellaneous items like tshirts to many countries. We cannot ship meats or frozen food outside of the contiguous U.S. due to customs regulations. Please contact our Flying Pig Express Shipping department by phone at 1-800-MAURICE to place these orders.

Q: Will I receive a tracking number for my order?
A: Yes, you will receive your tracking number via email after your package is shipped.

Q: What time of day will my package arrive?
A: We have no way of knowing what time of day your box will arrive. FedEx usually delivers between 10:00 am and 8:00 pm. FedEx policy is to leave the package without ringing the doorbell or knocking on the door, so if you have a perishable package coming and you see by the tracking number what day it should arrive, please keep an eye out for the package on your doorstep. We are not responsible for packages left outside for a long period of time or if the person is out of town.

Q: What should I do when sending a package as a gift?
A: We advise our customers to notify the gift recipient after they receive the tracking number to expect a package on the date indicated. This way the recipient will know to check their front door for a package.

Q: Where do I write my gift message?
A: If you’d like to include a gift message with your order, please write a brief message in the Gift Message box at checkout.

Q: How do I specify a specific ship or delivery date?
A: If you are placing an order and do not want it shipped until a later date, you can include the ship date or desired delivery date in the special instructions section on the checkout page. Please be sure to read the disclaimer first to ensure that your package can be delivered on the date you would like and which shipping option to choose.

Q: What’s the difference between shipping for residential or business addresses?
A: Ground Shipping to a business address is almost always a discounted rate.

Q: What do I do when I get my food package?
A: The food needs to be taken out of the box as soon as possible on the day it arrives. If you plan on eating the food within 3 days of receiving it, you can store it in the refrigerator. If you do not plan on eating the food within 3 days then store it in the freezer. We are not responsible for spoiled food that was not taken out of the box immediately upon receipt and put into the freezer or fridge.

Q: How long does it take to thaw meat?
A: Meats should be thawed in the refrigerator overnight or for approximately 12 hours. A full day of thawing is suggested for a large item like a turkey or ham.

Q: Will there be heating instructions in my package?
A: Each food package will contain an insert with heating directions.

Q: What is the expiration date on your sauce?
A: Our Southern Gold® sauce has a five year shelf life when stored on a cool pantry shelf out of direct sunlight. It should not be stored in a hot place. Once opened, refrigerate and use within 1 year. Discard if there is an odd smell to the sauce.

Q: I see a number stamp on the bottle. What is this number?
A: Pre-Feb 2018: The stamp is the date of production, NOT the expiration date. Starting in February 2018, the Expiration Date is now stamped on the bottle and clearly marked as expiration.

Q: What is Carolina Hash?
A: Hash is a southern dish made of 100% lean pork and fresh barbeque ham. It has been around for hundreds of years. Potatoes, onions, crisp bell peppers, golden mustard, brown sugar, and other secret ingredients are added to ours to make it unique and unforgettable. Hash is usually served over white rice.

Q: What payment options do you accept?
A: We have a secure site to accept all major credit cards. We also now accept PayPal as an easy secure payment option as well.

Q: My credit card wasn’t accepted when checking out online. Why?
A: There could be a variety of reasons – card has expired, card has not been activated, not enough money in the account, deposit has not been recorded yet. The most common reason is an address verification mismatch (AVS) if the zipcode associated with your credit card billing does not match the zip code of the bill-to address put in.

Q: Do I have to pay sales tax?
A: Only South Carolina customers shipping within the state are required to pay our 9% sales tax. Sales tax is not added to the sale of gift certificates.
